Climate change is everywhere, Peak Oil is rising on the political agenda, the fate of the economy is still uncertain, resource wars are looming and yet still very few people mention the elephant in the room that could be the root cause of it all; population.
Farming Futures attended the Oxford Farming Conference earlier this week where we were pleased to catch Sir Jonathon Porritt before he took part in the annual Oxford Union debate. This year the debate asked if unrestrained poulation growth and food security are incompatible.
The population debate is still a taboo area. In the three minute audio file below we asked Jonathon why he believes food secuity is threatened by population growth, what his vision for a sustainable food system is and how he thinks we can get there.

Those who attended the Oxford Union debate at the OFC voted for the motion that unrestrained population growth and food security are incompatible. What do you think? Let us know in the comment area below.
Population growth: Horses, Cats & Dogs
In the UK there are somewhere between 0.6m-1.5m horses (most under used), 8 million dogs & 8 million cats (most c**ping in public spaces/my garden) - if we gave their food to people we could probably feed our share of global population growth over the next 40 years - probably not a vote winner for a Politician though?
