How do we engage on a discussion involving emotive single issues that cloud our ability to partake in an unbiased and informed debate that affects all of us?
You cannot have a viable countryside without it producing food, alongside other ‘services’ required for taxpayers, in face of an incoming 'perfect storm', with a majority urban population disconnected from food production and nature at the heart of government.
Land Agent Rob Yorke (@blackgull) explores new demands on an old countryside formed by generations of land managers.
Rob, as part of his Land Management Fellowship paper for the RICS/RAC, has interviewed industry leaders from farming, forestry, conservation NGOs, media, supermarkets, politicians and civil servants to produce a debate paper on topical matters facing the countryside in the future.
Set to a backdrop of the Foresight Report Future of Food and Farming, the Natural Environment White Paper and the Read Report on Forests Combating Climate Change, Rob looks at conservation NGOs driving sustainability agendas, supermarkets positioning their rural branding, the media sway or reflection of public perception and land managers jostling in the middle.
