Don't believe in climate change?

The media, and our friends and family, are
often talking about reasons not to believe in climate change.  At Farming Futures we're often meeting farmers and land managers who are concerned or confused about news stories of sun spots and dodgy university research.

The Skeptical Science website has published a handy tool that lists the most common climate change skeptic arguments. The site uses the latest peer reviewed science and data to get to the truth.

It includes five-word summaries of 92 common climate-skeptic arguments, each accompanied by a one sentence riposte.  Useful stuff.

Here are some examples:

They were predicting an ice age in the 70's 1970s ice age predictions were predominantly media based. The majority of peer reviewed research at the time predicted warming due to increasing CO2.
It's just a natural cycle The 1500 year cycles, known as Dansgaard-Oeschger events, are localized to the northern hemisphere and accompanied with cooling in the southern hemisphere. In contrast, current global warming is occuring in both hemispheres and particularly throughout the world's oceans, indicating a significant energy imbalance.
