Andrew Ingram, a farmer from Oxfordshire, installed one of the first on-farm solar PV systems in England. Importantly he was one of the first of a new generation of ‘energy farmers’ that will reap the financial benefits of the Feed-in Tariff.
The 156 panels that make up the 28.8 kWp system are installed on a south facing barn roof and will generate 20-22,000 kWh’s per year. Andrew will sell about two thirds of this into the National Grid and use one third of the electricity on the farm. This will earn him a net profit of £280,000 over the course of the 25 years of the FIT and reduce his annual energy bill by around £7000 per year.
